How Social Media can impact your Life
Instagram,
SnapChat,
WhatsApp,
Messenger,
Facebook,
etc… Right now, I guess there
are at least 3 social networking apps installed in your phone.
Have
you noticed that these apps update every day to keep us engaged with
the app? They introduce stories, new emojis, new reactions and new UIs
with higher UX. These social networking companies pull all the strings
to keep their user base growing and active.
Your life has become an open book
While
you spend most of your time glued your eyes to the phone, there is
another group in the world who are doing researches and analyses your
behavioral patterns from what you post, your reactions and chats with
your friends to identify whatever the needs and requirements of you.
They use these identified facts and data to create new apps and features
for current apps.
In other words, everyone in the world knows who you are and what you are. You have become an open book to the whole word!
Where
did your privacy go? Actually you are violating your own privacy by
posting every single thing that happened in your day and every single
feeling you are getting!
You are spending 9 hours per day in Social Media
Today,
it is all about smartphones and being connected 24/7. Millennials and
Generation Z have been the prey of these social networks emerging day by
day and they are trying to cope up with the challenge of being online
24/7.
Hey All, Wait for a second. Think about it for a minute. Did humans ever have any of these requirements?
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! It’s a big No!
We actually never wanted any of these… Actually, we were better off with these social networking apps.
Our
parents, grandparents had a much active lifestyle and much more
interactions with people and nature in realtime more than we are doing
today. Did they not live their lives to the fullest because they had no
social media? Did they actually suffer because they had no social media?
Did they not enjoy their lives because there were no social media?
Stop
scrolling through the timelines for a minute and ask those questions
from yourself. Ask whether you are really productive? How do you spend
your day? What do you do most of the time of the day?
Well, I’ll tell you the hard truth!!!
You
are spending more than 9 hours per day glued your eyes to the phone
checking social media and using chat applications. It has been found
through surveys that a teen spends at least 9 hours a day in social
media[1].

Well,
if you do your calculations right, you are awake for just approximately
16 hours! Then you spend at least 2 hours for eating and other human
ablutions. Then reducing 9 hours out of that is equal to 16- 2- 9 = 5
hours!
You
just got 5 hours to learn something new, to care for the most important
people around you, to love someone, to see the beauty of the nature
around you, to play with your kids, finish some task at your work… At
least to see who is sitting next to you in commute…
How can a human do this much of work in just 5 hours? Are we all evolving to become superhuman or what??
What
I am trying to explain is, you are not living forever. You will die one
day or other. You don’t know when that one day might come. That day
might be tomorrow.
You just have 5 hours to enjoy and have a real taste of your life!
But if you are going to let these social media to make you a prey, then you have already lost this game of life.
At
the end of the day, even though there are thousands of friends and
followers in your social media, there is no one who really cares for you
other than people around you. You need to spend time with your family
and friends in real time other than being with your virtual friends and
followers in social media.
Don’t
worry that you will be an outcast because you do not keep up to the
challenge of being online 24/7 or do not share every single thing
happened in your day with your virtual friends.
Keep
in mind and worry about the fact that you will be a real outcast if you
won’t be available for your family and friends who care for you when
they need you and you won’t enjoy your life to the fullest when you have
time and choice of spending it in a more meaningful way.
It’s
time to revisit this hard truth that we all face today. Social media
has become an addiction and it’s us who have to work on beating this
addiction.
Try
to understand the hard truth that lies behind social media and it’s
marketing strategies and try to beat this social media addiction!
